RIAI 2030 Climate Challenge – new signatories, June 2024

The RIAI 2030 Climate Challenge is a voluntary initiative, which sets out targets to be achieved by 2025 and 2030 for new building projects, depending on the design timeline. The targets are based on the areas of operational energy, embodied carbon, water use, health and wellbeing.

The Climate Challenge asks clients, Architects and other members of the design team to work towards four key targets:

  • Reduce operational energy demand between 33-66% (depending on typology),
  • Reduce embodied carbon by at least 40%,
  • Reduce potable water use by at least 40%,
  • Achieve core health and wellbeing targets.

Meeting the RIAI 2030 Climate Challenge is essential if the construction sector is to play its part responding to the climate and biodiversity crises.
