On completion of this course attendees should have a knowledge of the steps to be taken in undertaking an Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment and preparing an AHIA report.

Michael O’Boyle FRIAI, RIAI Grade 1 Conservation Architect

Michael O'Boyle FRIAI is an RIAI Grade 1 Conservation Architect in private practice, serving as a director for Michael O'Boyle Architecture + Conservation. As the chair of the RIAI Historic Buildings Committee, he contributes significantly to the preservation of historic structures. Since 2015, Michael has been involved in the assessment of candidates at all grades within the RIAI Conservation Accreditation System. He was actively involved in the taskforce that established the Standard of Knowledge, Skill, and Competence for RIAI Conservation Accreditation as well as the RIAI Skills Matrix for Conservation Projects, and is chair of the Conservation Induction Module Examination Board for 2024. Michael has worked on a wide range of conservation projects, large and small, within his own practice, in collaboration with other architectural practices, and as a consultant to several local authorities and public bodies. He is a member of the RIAI Council and the current chair of Irish Landmark Trust. Michael holds a Masters in Urban and Building Conservation (MUBC) from University College Dublin (UCD). Michael has a keen interest in the revitalization of historic town centers and promoting innovative re-use of existing buildings, seeing the architectural profession as a vital force in addressing the ongoing housin
