The assessors considered the building to be of importance and an example of a type which is under serious threat, and were impressed by the extent and quality of research and scholarship employed in reaching conservation decisions.
There were certain reservations about the extent of the modern insertions in the interior. It was however considered that these did not impinge significantly on the quality of the internal spaces and could be removed if required at some future time.
