This is an exquisite extension to a mid 19th century school in Dublin, carefully maintaining a backdrop for the elegant existing building while also establishing a new and complimentary architectural order, beautifully crafted in every detail. The siting is balanced to frame and consolidate two external spaces, establish a pronounced entrance and make the most of orientation and views. The classroom spaces are prioritised and sit, behind the screen facade, among the branches of mature chestnut trees. This building places the child at the centre of its design and is an essay in the value of providing our young children with exceptional spaces to learn and play.
