Killyon Church

PG Architects

Irish Architecture Awards
Location:
Enfield, Co. Meath
Less is so much more when applied to this beautiful adaption of a simple mid-20th century rural church to suit the needs of a smaller congregation. Retaining just the original mono pitched nave and turning the liturgical function through 90 degrees to face a new apse and altarpiece is a masterstroke. The re‐planned space is both intimate and dramatic with a kaleidoscopic suffusion of light flooding the room through the restored lofty clerestory that runs the length of the building.
The architect, who was born and lives in Killyon, and the parish priest are a spiritual team with a deep love for this place and it shows in every facet of the thoughtful architecture and meticulous detailing
