Gate Lodge
Architect:
Donaghy + Dimond Architects
Award Type:
Irish Architecture Awards
Location:
An exquisitely crafted and beautifully wrought intervention, Gate Lodge accomplishes that most elusive of tricks, the introduction of something new which reinforces not overwhelms the original. A task made all the harder in this case, considering the pure pavilion-like character of the existing building. The jury commends the extraordinary sophistication that is found in the work, every junction and surface appears tailored into its precise location. Like all the best architecture, this modest extension asks the question of how to fit rather than stand out.
